Country Report


  1)"Malaysia, located in Southeast Asia, a federal constitutional monarchy. It has thirteen states and three federal territories. Malaysia covers an area of 329,847 square kilometers, equals 127,350 square miles. Because of separated by the South China Sea, Malaysia has two main regions. One is Peninsular Malaysia and the other is Malaysian Borneo. Malaysia is bordered by Thailand, Indonesia, and Brunei on land. Also, Malaysia is bordered with Singapore, Vietnam, and the Philippines on Ocean. The capital city of Malaysia is Kuala Lumpur which is a famous tourism city."

Climate

  “The climate of Malaysia is equatorial. From April to October, the climate affected by southwest monsoons; from October to February, the climate affected by northeast monsoons. As Malaysia is rounded by oceans, the temperature is not too high, between 26 to 30℃. The humidity is usually high. And it rains a lot in Malaysia;the average annual rainfall is around 250 centimeters. The climates of the Peninsula and the East are different. Because the climate of peninsula is affected by wind from mainland, and the climate of East is affected by wind from ocean. There are mainly three regions of climates in Malaysia, highland, lowland, and coastal.”

Interview report

  My last interviewed person he is from Malaysia. His name is Foo. He is my roommate's friend, and he tell me he can help me to finish my interview. Foo tell me his home country's culture such as education and food. His country's weather still very clod as same as Minnesota. But in his city has very much rainfall. Foo still can speak Chinese, I think he is a linguistic genius. In this university has many Malaysia people, I'm very happy can make this new friend. This is my third time to do interview, I think is much better than before, because I'm not nervous. We talk about so much things with Foo. I think Foo is very friendly, he often to correct my grammar error. This is a very pleasant conversation.

Preparation for the interview

  Before this interview, I am looking for a Malaysian as I interviewed and my roommate tell me he can help me, because he want to go to his Malaysian friend's house to bring a book, I think this is a chance and I follow my roommate to go to Foo' house.

How Did You Approach People?

  I'm very worry he doesn't have time to help me to finish my interview and my roommate said" just ask him, he is very kind person". I'm success to interviewed this Malaysia person.

When, where

  In Sunday afternoon, I'm going to his house to began my interview. I use about 40 minutes to finish my interview and I think this is a good interview.



Transcript

Me: Hi, I'm Yifu, I'm from China. thank you for helping me with the

Interview.

Foo: Yeah it's fine, my friend.

Me: So can you introduce yourself?

Foo: My name is Foo H M, I'm from Malaysia. I'm St. Cloud state University students. I came here about three years.

Me: Can you introduce Specific city? I mean in your home country, where are you live?

Foo: Yes, I'm from Sepang. It is in the southern part of the state of Selangor in Malaysia.

Me: I'm very like want know about your country's culture so first can you tell me your country's education system?

Foo: Ok, the Malaysia pays lots of attention on education. The government considers it as one of their responsibilities. Primary schools and secondary schools are free to public. And non-compulsory is a feature in the education system. Primary schools take 6 year to finish and secondary schools take 5years. Then, we go to high schools for 2 year. After the high schools, you can go to universities. By the way, it takes 3 year for undergraduate.

Me: I think has a little be like my country. So why are you choose St. Cloud state University to study.

Foo: I came there with my friend, he is my high school classmate and we think this school is very consort us.

Me: What are you planning to do after school?

Foo: Sometimes I like play badminton with my friends.

Me: I like badminton too, that also very popular in my country. So What is the most popular sport in your country? Or activities that young people like to do in your country?

Foo: Oh, soccer, badminton, field hockey, bowling and tennis are very popular in Malaysia. And I can’t tell which is the most popular.

Me: What is a traditional food in your country?

Foo: We eat rice and noodle for our main food. We also eat meat like beef, pork, chicken; vegetable and fruits. Nasi Lemak is a famous Malaysia food.

Me: As same as my country, do you like eat American food?

Foo: I tell your the truth, I hate that, the food in our country is much spice, I love spice.

Me: I think it seems that we have a common eating habits. So, What do you perceive as differences between your culture and the American culture?

Foo: I think culture has a big influence on my family. In the culture, men are always more social than women. The same as the culture, in my family, my father goes out for work; at the same time my mother does the house work. Also, my father makes the

important decisions, such as investments.

Me: What are major holidays in your country?

Foo: Oh, we have Hari Merdeka, it is the Independence Day on 31 August. Maulidur Rasul is another important holiday. We also celebrate Chinese New Year.

Me: So your country like to celebrate Chinese New Year?

Foo: Yes we are, our family like use fire work to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Me: What are your country's major religions?

Foo: In my country,we have many different religions such as Buddhism, Christian and Islam, if you say major religions that is Islam.

Me: Do you have religions?

Foo: Yes, I'm the Islam

Me: So the last question, can your tell me about your city's weather?

Foo: We don't have winter in my hometown, And the average temperature is around 27℃. But we have more rain in my home town.

Me: I think your very love your country's weather more than MN.

Foo: Yes of course.

Me: Is there anything you would like to add before we end our interview?

Foo: I think nothing to add.

Me: Do you have any questions for me, now that I have had the pleasure of asking you about so many things.

Foo: Welcome often come to my house.
